ALL RANCHING FOR WILDLIFE LICENSES ARE GUARANTEED AND ARE PURCHASED FROM A LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR WHEN YOU ARRIVE, PRIOR TO YOUR HUNT.

All "Additional Cow" licenses will be purchased over the counter prior to your hunt.

Primary Cow licenses may be obtained in 2 ways:

    (1)  SRO will mail you an application, with the proper codes filled in for you, but you will be responsible for filling out your personal information and returning it to the State of Colorado prior to the deadline (April 1, 2008), with the proper payment amount.

Please see the checklist below for these applications.

    (2)  There will be leftover Cow Elk licenses available for purchase at Regional Colorado Division of Wildlife offices after August 2008.

License Requirements

1)  You must meet hunter education requirement to purchase or apply for a big game license or preference point.

     a) ANYONE BORN AFTER JANUARY 1, 1949 MUST HAVE COMPLETED AN APPROVED HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE OR BOWHUNTER EDUCATION COURSE (FOR ARCHERY LICENSES ONLY), SANCTIONED BY A STATE OR PROVINCE BEFORE APPLYING FOR OR PURCHASING A LICENSE. Colorado honors hunter education courses from other states and provinces. An original hunter safety card must be presented when buying a license over the counter at a license agency. You also must carry your hunter education card when hunting, unless the words "Proof of Hunter Education Verified" were printed by the DOW on your CC or a "V" is printed on your license. Out-of-state hunters are encouraged to bring their hunter education card with them when coming to Colorado to hunt.

2)  You must have a license to hunt. Use your home mailing address in buying or applying for a license; business addresses are illegal.

3)  You must carry your license while hunting.

4)  You can hunt only the animal and season specified on your license.

5)  It is illegal to give false information to obtain a license. It is also illegal to loan, transfer, sell or give your license to someone or to alter your license.

6)  It is illegal to sign or tear off the carcass tag before a kill.

7)  If a license is lost or destroyed, a duplicate is available before opening day from a license agent for 1/2 the license fee, up to $25.00. After the season opens, duplicates are available at DOW offices ONLY.

8)  Licenses expire at the end of the season printed on the license.

9)  Youth must be at least 12 years old and meet hunter education requirements to hunt deer, elk, pronghorn, black bear and moose.

 

            Application Checklist

 

Be sure to...   

Use CAPITAL LETTERS and BLACK INK for your application.

Write your CID Number or Conservation Certificate number, name and date of birth (using all for digits of the year) exactly as shown on your license, Conservation Certificate or mailing label of this brochure.  (IF YOU HAVE NEVER HAD A CID OR CONSERVATION CERTIFICATE, FILL OUT THE BOTTOM PART OF THE APPLICATION ALSO).

Read the instructions on the release of name and address information.

Mark the Preference Point and Hunter Education checkboxes if applicable.

Include a daytime phone number in the signature box.

Enclose payment to the Division of Wildlife.

Complete the "Colorado Resident Since" boxes if applicable.

Use a legal-sized envelope, include only ONE application and ONE check addressed to:

           Colorado Division of Wildlife

           Attention: (species of license application such as - Elk, Deer or Pronghorn)

Send us your address change form in a separate envelope (DO NOT include it with your application). Mail by the application deadline to ensure your license or refund is sent to your current address.
